ANDY'S CACTUS

Guido Drocco-Franco Mello

GUFRAM

The collaboration between Gufram and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts continues with the new limited edition of Andy’s Cactus®, available in three color variants: Andy’s Green Cactus®, Andy’s Orange Cactus®, and Andy’s White Cactus®. Produced in only 99 pieces per color, the collection renews the dialogue between Gufram’s provocative spirit and the irreverent aesthetic that has defined Cactus® since its creation. A meeting that celebrates creative freedom, unconventional thinking, and the desire to challenge traditional design codes.

Created in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, Cactus® is far more than a simple coat rack: it is a domestic sculpture that transforms a functional object into a timeless icon, replacing rationality with irony and utility with concept. Its visual impact deliberately broke the bourgeois conventions of modern furnishings, establishing it as a symbol of radical design.

The new editions draw inspiration from the last self-portrait silkscreens by Andy Warhol in 1986, translating the colors of pop art into three interpretations that amplify the expressive power of Cactus®. More than simple color variations, these tones evoke Warhol’s visual language, reinforcing the object’s status as an icon of art and design, where irony and experimentation merge into a single vision.
