WONDERGLASS

The interlocking or construction of Chain is made using multiple 
ringed bricks, cut into two parts and threaded through the centre 
of another to aggregate the form. The curved and polished end 
details of the cut brick nod to similar treatments found in many 
Japanese wooden temples.
With Chain’s cosmopolitan attitude, Bethan Laura Wood brings 
together the rich veins of Japanese carpentry and Venetian 
glassmaking. As such, it pays tribute to the role of mastercraftsmanship in preserving cultural history, and the importance of 
international collaborations in shaping a democratised, enhanced 
and thriving future for design.
